Cockatoo Coal Limited is the recent entrant into the ranks of Australian coal production companies.
Listed on the Australian Stock Exchange, Cockatoo Coal acquired the Baralaba coal mine in the Bowen Basin, Queensland in December 2008. Historically a small operation, Cockatoo Coal has stated that Baralaba is to be the basis for a much larger pci/thermal coal operation, with the associated economies of scale that will deliver.
Excellent initial headway has seen monthly production upgraded by 90+% in the first 6 months of ownership. Positive cashflows are now anticipated during 2009/10, while further production expansion phases are planned.
In addition to Baralaba, the Company is developing a portfolio of advanced projects in the Bowen and Surat Basins. The company’s portfolio encompasses more than 4,000square kilometres of tenements in these 2 known coal bearing regions.
The company currently plans to mobilise these assets to expand production from 500,000tpa in 2009/10, to potentially in excess of 9Mtpa from 2015/2016 – to service forecast strong, long term demand for export coal.
